The family of late Dr. Chike Akunyili has announced plans to commemorate his 5th year remembrance with a free medical outreach for indigent residents in Enugu.
Dr. Akunyili, husband of the late former NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Dora Akunyili, was a renowned medical doctor who was tragically killed by unknown gunmen at Nkpor Junction, Onitsha, Anambra State, on September 28, 2021.
According to a statement by the family, the decision to mark his 5th year remembrance with a free medical outreach is a fitting tribute to his lifelong dedication to medicine and service to humanity.
Part of the statement read: “Five years may have passed, but your legacy of compassion, service and excellence continues to inspire and bless lives.”
Services to be rendered at the outreach include general medical consultation, health screening, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, as well as free medications as available.
The family, in its message of tribute, said: “Daddy, you’ll forever be remembered. Rest on Omiyi.”
The family has invited friends, well-wishers, medical colleagues and the general public to join in honouring the memory of a man, whose life was defined by service, while also benefiting from the free healthcare services.
The event, scheduled for Sunday, September 28, at St. Leo’s Hospital Premises, Abakpa Nike Road, Enugu, will commence at 10am.
