During the President’s visit, a critical town-hall meeting was held, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss urgent measures to halt the recurring violence. “At the town-hall, important issues were addressed with the aim of nipping the lingering killings in the bud,” the SGF noted.

In a bid to fast-track peace efforts, President Tinubu had directed Akume to coordinate the formation of a committee, comprising former governors of Benue State, traditional rulers, including the Tor Tiv, the Och’Idoma and other significant stakeholders. This committee will work closely with the President in Abuja to develop practical strategies to end the violence.

Akume emphasised the importance of unity in achieving sustainable peace, stating, “Achieving sustainable peace requires a united effort. I assure Mr. President of my unwavering commitment to work hand-in-hand with local communities, civil society, security agencies and traditional rulers. Together, we will develop and implement comprehensive strategies that address root causes, promote reconciliation and foster long-term stability in Benue State.”

He noted that the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to bring peace and development to all parts of Nigeria.
