Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, yesterday, led delegates from the North Central geopolitical zone to affirm President Bola Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The declaration came during the North Central Zonal Congress of the APC in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, where party leaders gathered to discuss the region’s political future.

In a statement by Akume’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, the SGF moved the motion for Tinubu’s adoption, which was seconded by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, and met with thunderous approval from all delegates.

The event drew a high-powered attendance, including all North Central governors, former governors and their deputies, serving national and state assembly members, ministers and numerous current and former political office holders.

In his address, Akume described the endorsement as a vote of confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and the administration’s drive to reposition Nigeria. As the leader of the APC in the zone, he underscored his responsibility to foster unity and alignment among party stakeholders.

“The North Central has done so much for this country to preserve the country’s unity. Nigerians are proud of you. And we must be proud of ourselves. Our governors and ministers are performing exceptionally.

“I’m always honoured about our governors whenever I meet them. With the politicians I’ve seen here, North Central will provide the highest number of votes among the six geopolitical zones,” he said.

He emphasised the zone’s commitment to APC’s ideals, supporting policies for economic recovery, infrastructure and national cohesion. He urged members to unite, consolidate gains ahead of the 2027 elections and leverage the early consensus for a strategic edge in governance and delivery.

Delegates received the endorsement with applause, hailing it as a vital move for party stability and leadership continuity.
