Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has urged public office holders to see leadership beyond the exercise of power, saying their legacy should be measured by the lives they touch, institutions they strengthen and opportunities they create for future generations.
Akpoti-Uduaghan made the call while joining senators to pay tribute to the late former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, popularly known as Ibro, on the floor of the Senate.
The tribute, which was raised in a motion by Jibrin Isah, representing Kogi East, followed the death of Idris in the United Kingdom on 20 September 2026, at the age of 77. He was buried in Abuja on 25 September.
Reflecting on the late governor’s political career and legacy, Akpoti-Uduaghan said his death offered public office holders an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities that come with leadership.
“Leadership is ultimately measured by the lives touched, institutions strengthened and opportunities created for future generations,” she said.

She added, “As we mourn His Excellency Ibrahim Idris, we must also remember the chapter he wrote in the history of Kogi State and the lessons his journey offers to those of us entrusted with public responsibility.”
The senator described Idris’ death as a major loss to Kogi State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Nigeria, urging that his contributions to the state’s political history be remembered.
“The passing of His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, is a profound loss to Kogi State, the Peoples Democratic Party and indeed Nigeria,” she said.
Idris governed Kogi State from 2003 until January 2012 on the platform of the PDP, becoming one of the longest-serving governors in the state’s history.
His tenure spanned a significant period in the state’s political development, with his administration remaining a major reference point in discussions about Kogi’s political history and the evolution of the PDP in the state.
