Ahead the September 21st Edo State governorship election, the candidate of Labour Party (LP), Olumide Akpata, has promised to give priority to the health sector by building Public Health Centres, PHCs in the 192 wards of the state if elected.

Bedsides, he also promised to prioritise the development of  inner cities and other areas lacking development in the state.

He made the promise on Monday while addressing supporters and residents in Etete, Benin City, saying that the people need to be healthy at all times to be able to carry out their daily activities.

Akpata while pointing out that the provision of the PHCs would enable the people access health care in their localities, assuring that his party was ready to deliver its campaign promises  compared to what has happened in the state since the beginning of the fourth republic in 1999.

The LP candidate stated that the definition of democracy is people centred hence the need for government to begin working for the people instead of public office holders thereby disconnecting themselves from the people once they get into power.

“I will ensure that primary health care is effective to bring health care to all the wards in the state. People need to be healthy to be able to carry out their daily activities.

“Also, we will deliver on our promises as the people are the major focus in a democratic government. We will also develop the inner cities and other places that lack development”, Akpata said.
