President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has described the late Barinada Mpigi as a lawmaker who served with honour, dignity, and unwavering commitment to his people and the nation.
Akpabio made the remarks during the funeral service held in honour of the late senator in Koroma Tai, Rivers State.
Paying glowing tribute, the Senate President said Mpigi’s contributions on the floor of the Senate reflected deep conviction and a strong sense of responsibility to his constituents.
“Senator Barinada Mpigi served his people and his country with honour, with dignity, and with unwavering devotion to duty,” Akpabio said.
He noted that within the Senate chamber, where critical national decisions are taken, the late lawmaker stood out for his composure and clarity of thought.
“In the hallowed Chamber of the Senate, where the affairs of the nation are debated and determined, his voice was steady, his judgment thoughtful, and his commitment to the welfare of his constituents unmistakable,” he added.

Akpabio further stated that Mpigi carried out his legislative duties with a clear understanding of the weight of public service, stressing that he remained mindful of the expectations of those he represented.
According to him, “he served with dignity and with conviction, mindful that the lives, hopes, and welfare of many were bound up in how faithfully they served.
“He served with loyalty to his people, with fidelity to his conscience, and with faith in the promise of our nation.”
Reflecting on his passing, the Senate President said that while the nation mourns, the legacy of the late senator will endure.
“Though we grieve his loss, we remember him as a man who served with honour, who laboured with conviction, and who believed in the future of Nigeria. Nigeria misses him. The Senate mourns him. His people remember him,” he said.
Until his death, Mpigi represented Rivers South East Senatorial District in the Senate and served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works. He was widely regarded as one of the most influential and outspoken lawmakers in the 10th Senate.
