President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Monday led a delegation of senators on a condolence visit to the Abuja residence of the late Barinada Mpigi, who died last week in a London hospital.

Until his death, Mpigi represented Rivers South East Senatorial District in the Senate.

Speaking during the visit, Akpabio described the passing of the former lawmaker as a painful loss, not only to the National Assembly but to the country at large. He expressed deep sorrow over the death of his colleague, noting that Mpigi’s contributions to legislative development and nation-building would be remembered.

“Senator Mpigi was a dedicated public servant, who contributed meaningfully to legislative development and nation-building. He was committed to the welfare of his constituents and his passion for service would not be forgotten. His legacy would continue to inspire younger generations of leaders,” Akpabio said.

The Senate President urged the bereaved family to find comfort in the impactful life their father lived, assuring them that the Senate and the entire National Assembly share in their grief.

He also prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for the family to be granted the strength to bear what he described as an irreplaceable loss.
