Senate President Godswill Akpabio has strongly condemned the recent killing of 16 travellers in Edo State, describing the incident as a senseless act of violence that has no place in society.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, on Monday, Akpabio expressed deep sorrow over the incident and called for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the gruesome murder of 16 travellers in Edo State. This senseless act of violence is unacceptable and has no place in our society,” he stated.

The Senate President urged relevant authorities to take swift action in bringing the perpetrators to justice, emphasising the need to hold those responsible accountable.

“I condemn in very strong terms this heinous crime and urge the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. The perpetrators of this barbaric act must be brought to book and held accountable for their actions,” he added.

He also called for unity among Nigerians, stressing that such violent incidents should not be allowed to divide the nation or derail efforts towards national development.

“As a people, we must work together to promote peace, unity, and understanding. We cannot afford to let such acts of violence divide us or undermine our collective efforts to build a better Nigeria,” he said.

While expressing his condolences, he sympathised with the families of the victims, the government and people of Edo State, and all those affected by the tragedy.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the families of the victims, the government and people of Edo State, and all those affected by this needless act. I pray that God grants the departed peaceful rest and gives their loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Akpabio said.
