Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has tasked the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure the party work with members of the National Assembly in deciding the final list of legislators that emerged victorious as candidates in the primaries.

He threw the challenge in his remarks as the co-chairman during the official inauguration of the APC Campaign Council for the Ekiti State off-cycle governorship election in Abuja yesterday.

While lamenting the outcome of the primaries, Akpabio told the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) that many of the legislators were having hypertension.

Senator Akpabio, however, blamed his colleagues over what he described as failure of some of them to do their homework before purchasing the nomination forms and participating in the primaries.

“All of us are here because we are loyal to our party. The party is supreme. I am only pleading with the party that when they bring out their final list, they need to show that they are carrying all of us along.

“When the working committee meets, and brings out their final list, outside the committee, or the names of the people contesting the election, some of my people are having hypertension….

“You have the absolute right to choose anybody you want. And then for the President of Nigeria, as one of my treaties with the CFA, he also has the right to make him cute. But when anybody has lost the election on the ground, please don’t expect me, as chairman of the National Assembly, to come and plead with you to put the person.

“It simply means the person has lost. So, I want to congratulate those who won the primaries. And then plead with my colleagues, both in the House of Representatives and the Senate, that the Senate President, as chairman of the National Assembly, is saying that you should have done your homework well before going for the primaries.

“That is what I’m saying. So, when the party meets, we shall endorse, and may God Almighty grant us victory in the elections, and grant us victory in justice,” he said.
