No fewer than 382 students took the matriculating oath of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, for the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) for the 2022/2023 academic session.
In his address on the occasion, the provost of the college, Dr. Wahab Ademola Azeez, stressed the need for them to exhibit discipline, loyalty, honesty and good character at all times during their stay in the institution.
He enjoined them to avoid wasting their energy in unlawful acts or destructive union activities that are tantamount to misplaced priorities and contribute to the lowering of standard of education.
He said: “It is, therefore, advised that you combine both academic and moral excellence throughout your stay as a student in the college. You should refrain from all acts which are contrary to the rules and regulations of the college in order not to jeopardize the realization of your life ambitions; these unsavory acts include examination misconduct, admission fraud, certificate forgery, cultism, fighting, theft, extortion, rape, illicit drug dealings, membership of unlawful secret cults and societies.
“It would be appreciated if you could reciprocate the good gesture of the college by working hard and diligently in order to contribute your quota to the development of our country as a citizen. This is an academic environment with unique norms and values; you are expected to familiarize yourselves with them.
“This indeed is a pathway to your academic career and development, being among the lucky few to be offered admission into acquiring Nigerian Certificate in Education and Professional Diploma in Education from Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, Lagos.
“As can be found in all registered citadels of learning by the government, all our academic and non-teaching staff are well trained and qualified to pass unto you the required knowledge, training, skills, and character needed to be certified as qualified vocational-technical teachers. The college has remained focused and committed to the philosophy and values upon which it was established in 1967. To produce qualitative science, technical, business, and vocational education graduates who in turn, are expected to impact the knowledge to others to utilize their acquired skills in relevant areas to make a meaningful impact on the development needs of our dear nation, Nigeria.’’
Also, Osakuni Nathaniel Desmond, Students’ Union president, in his address, congratulated parents for the role that they have played in the lives of their wards and prayed that their efforts would not be in vain.
“This great institution is known for producing generational leaders and I urge you not to take your education for granted,” he said.
