Akintunde Akinbo is a UK-based cybersecurity professional whose work sits at the intersection of governance, risk, compliance, and technology innovation.
With over a decade of experience in the tech space, Akintunde has built a career defined not only by technical depth and regulatory expertise, but by a growing commitment to solving some of the most persistent problems in cybersecurity through intelligent automation and software development.
Originally trained as an Electrical and Electronics Engineer, Akintunde’s journey into cybersecurity was driven by a desire to protect business operations in an increasingly hostile digital environment. After earning his BSc from Olabisi Onabanjo University in Nigeria, he advanced his expertise with an MSc in Cybersecurity from Sheffield Hallam University, a period that further shaped his understanding of modern security challenges and global risk landscapes.
Today, he works as a Senior Information Security Officer, combining hands-on technical skill with strategic leadership across complex organizations.
Throughout his career, Akintunde has developed deep expertise across globally recognised standards and frameworks, including ISO 27001, GDPR, PCI-DSS, SOC 2, NIST CSF, FedRAMP, CMMC, OSCAL, and AI Risk Management Frameworks.
He is an ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, a Certified GRC Professional, an Incident Management Expert, and holds multiple advanced cybersecurity certifications. His work has consistently focused on building robust security frameworks, conducting risk and penetration assessments, managing third-party and supply chain risks, and ensuring regulatory alignment across diverse operational environments.
What truly sets Akintunde apart, however, is his approach to innovation within the GRC space. Rather than relying solely on off-the-shelf solutions, he is actively building AI-powered compliance tools designed to simplify and automate audit and regulatory processes. These tools aim to reduce compliance fatigue, cut audit costs, and help organizations navigate complex frameworks with greater efficiency and accuracy. This work draws directly from his professional experience, including a notable achievement where he consolidated multiple audit workflows, reducing internal resource utilisation by 40 percent and cutting external audit costs by over 50 percent—saving his organization $60,000.
Alongside this, Akintunde is developing a crisis management exercise and readiness assessment tool focused on incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery. The platform is designed to help organizations move beyond theoretical plans by actively testing their preparedness for real-world disruptions. By automating crisis simulations and assessments, the tool enables companies to measure resilience, identify gaps, and strengthen response strategies before incidents occur. This project reflects his broader philosophy that security should be practical, measurable, and embedded into everyday operations.
In his current role, Akintunde is also leading the implementation of Microsoft Sentinel, a highly complex security infrastructure project involving unique operational requirements and close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external consultants. Bringing such a demanding deployment to completion has further reinforced his reputation as a professional capable of delivering results in high-stakes environments.
Beyond his technical and innovative work, Akintunde remains deeply committed to developing people. He has trained and mentored hundreds of individuals into starting and growing careers in cybersecurity, with a strong belief that education, guidance, and security awareness are just as critical as tools and frameworks. His approach emphasises not only technical excellence, but the importance of building resilient security cultures within organizations.
Driven by a clear vision to expand his global impact, Akintunde Akinbo continues to advance the cybersecurity field by combining governance expertise, AI-driven innovation, and hands-on software development. Through the tools he is building and the professionals he is mentoring, he is helping organizations strengthen compliance, streamline audits, and improve crisis readiness ensuring they are better equipped to operate securely in an increasingly complex digital world.
