The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has again described the late former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu as a courageous legal luminary.
The NBA stated that Akeredolu remained one of the most influential presidents to had ever led the association.
Akeredolu who passed away on December 27, 2023 after a protracted battle with terminal ailments, was the president of NBA between 2008 and 2010.
Speaking on behalf of the NBA during a condolence visit to the bereaved family, current president of the association, Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau (SAN) said Akeredolu’s tenure as NBA president was renowned for active commitment to the rule of law, effective administration of justice and protection of human rights.
In a statement by the national publicity secretary of NBA, Akorede Habeeb Lawal, said Maikyau was accompanied on the solemn visit by other national officers, delegates from some branches and notable members of the association.
The statement quoted Maikyau as saying that the late Ondo governor was “one of the most influential and courageous Presidents ever to lead the NBA,” and prayed that “God Almighty will comfort the hearts of all members of his family, his colleagues and friends.”
Mr. Lawal said the delegation which was received by the widow, Betty Akeredolu at the family residence in Ibadan, later signed the condolence register.
On the delegation, according to Lawal, were 3rd vice president, Amanda Demechi-Asagba; general secretary, Adesina Adegbite; and welfare secretary, Chinyere Obasi.
Lawal also mentioned the chairpersons of the Ibadan, ikeja, Lagos, and Ikorodu branches of the NBA, as well as other distinguished members of the legal body as part of the delegation .
