The APC Sokoto East senatorial candidate, Umar Ajiya Isa, has been honoured with a Humanitarian Excellence Award by resident doctors in Sokoto State in recognition of his contributions to healthcare and humanitarian interventions across the state.
The group who paid a courtesy visit to Ajiya in his office on Monday, commended his sustained support for vulnerable residents and his contributions towards improving access to healthcare, particularly for people affected by insecurity and other challenges.
Presenting the award, the President of the resident doctors in the state Mujitaba Umar acknowledged Ajiya’s various interventions in the health sector and his support for initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents of Sokoto State.
According to him, among Ajiya’s notable interventions is the building a diagnosis centre for the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH),
A gesture he describes as part of his efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.
“The diagnosis centre is one of Ajiya’s interventions in healthcare and humanitarian services. Beyond this, he has also supported PhD students with funding for their research”
Umar said that his interventions have also included sponsoring medical treatment for victims of banditry and assisting vulnerable residents whose lives and livelihoods have been affected by insecurity.
The group also commended Ajiya for what they described as his commitment to supporting healthcare professionals and humanitarian initiatives.
They also highlighted the challenges facing medical professionals in the country and the importance of support from individuals and organisations towards improving healthcare delivery.
Responding, Ajiya expressed appreciation to the resident doctors for the recognition and pledged his continued support for initiatives that would improve healthcare services and provide assistance to vulnerable residents.
He commended the doctors for continuing to serve Nigerians despite the challenges confronting the country’s healthcare system.
Ajiya said collaboration between medical professionals, humanitarian organisations, government and other stakeholders remained important in addressing the healthcare needs of residents, particularly vulnerable people.
He assured the resident doctors of his willingness to support initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving the wellbeing of people across Sokoto State.
