Nigerian wellness advocate and content creator, Akanbi Aishat Oluwatoyin, popularly known as Aishat Alagbo, has cautioned Nigerians against assuming that herbal products are automatically safe because they are natural.
Alagbo, founder of Aish Naturaleaf Herbal, said the growing interest in traditional and herbal wellness practices, particularly among young Nigerians, requires practitioners and wellness brands to provide accurate information about their products.
She noted that while more Nigerians are becoming conscious of what they consume and increasingly interested in traditional remedies, natural products can still have strong effects, interact with medications or be unsuitable for certain individuals.
“One of the biggest misconceptions is that because something is natural, it cannot be harmful. That’s not true,” she said.

Alagbo also stressed that traditional medicine and modern healthcare don’t have to be in conflict, noting that both can play a role when used responsibly.
“I believe there is a place for traditional knowledge, and there is also a place for modern medicine and scientific research. What matters is responsible use, proper information and knowing when you need to see a medical professional,” she added.
Through Aish Naturaleaf Herbal, Alagbo promotes herbal and plant-based wellness, including conversations around reproductive and hormonal wellbeing. Her growing social media presence has also positioned her within Nigeria’s expanding wellness and content-creation space.
