Airtel Africa plc has announced Sunil Taldar as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) ahead of the retirement of the current CEO, Olusegun Ogunsanya.
The Group Company Secretary, Airtel Africa, Simon O’Hara in a statement submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), noted that the appointment would be effective July 1, 2024.
The statement added that, “Taldar will be appointed to the Board as an Executive Director and assume the role of CEO on 1 July 2024, at which time Segun will retire from the Board and the Company.”
Taldar, with over 30 years of business management experience in the FMCG and Telecommunications sectors, including a previous role as Director of Market Operations at Bharti Airtel, is duly equipped to deliver a stelar performance in his new role.
Chairman of Airtel Africa plc, Sunil Bharti Mittal, commenting on the appointment said, “the Board is delighted to appoint Sunil Taldar as the Group’s next Chief Executive Officer. His industry experience, strategic vision, constant customer focus and proven record of delivery will enable him to deliver our strategic objectives and to lead the Group in the next stages of its development.”
He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing CEO for his dedication and outstanding contribution to the growth of the company.

The outgoing CEO, Ogunsanya, after transition, will take on the role of the Airtel Africa Charitable Foundation’s inaugural Chair. The foundation, with its own separate legal identity, will focus on digital inclusion, financial inclusion, access to education, and environmental protection across the continent. Ogunsanya will also serve as an advisor to the Chairman, the Airtel Africa Board, and the Chief Executive for a 12-month period.
