AIG tasks Zone 8 officers to flush out criminals

Assistant  Inspector General of Police, Zone 8, Lokoja, comprising Kogi and Kwara states, Mrs.  Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, has charged officers to flush out criminals terrorising the state, particularly the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway: “We are here to fight criminals and criminality. We are ready for the battle. We will ensure adequate security in Kwara State and other zones.

“I have directed the two commissioners of police to continue their efforts to fight crime and criminality. I have lectured my officers to be ready to confront security challenges. I warned them to maintain discipline when carrying out their duties.

“There are in constant patrols, especially on the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway. We have sent strong signals to hoodlums that Kogi State will be too hot for them to operate.  We are performing our statutory responsibilities of protecting life and property.

“Officers should be professional and mindful of the fundamental rights of the citizens. They should discharge their responsibilities with all humility, decorum and alertness. I have warned officers not to get involved in illegal duty. Anyone caught will face the Police Act and the consequences of their actions.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, has a vision to fight crime and criminality, uphold justice and fairness, protect human dignity, and restore standards and values. We will engage in a robust and effective human and technical intelligence-gathering process to enhance the capacity of personnel.

“Officers have been directed to be professional, firm and courteous in the discharge of their duties and imbibe community policing. They are also advised on discipline and integrity as core values that officers must uphold. Officers should shun corruption and illegal duty. They should have a good relationship with the public and respect the fundamental rights of the citizens.

“The two commands are to ensure the protection of life and maintain law and order. The command has continued to intensify efforts in combating crimes. I urge residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and actionable pieces of information.”
