The conferment of the Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON, on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has elicited excitement among the people especially the General Manager, Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, ESHDC, Hon. Chukwuemelie Agu. Nigerian National Honours are a set of orders and decorations conferred upon Nigerians and friends of Nigeria every year. They were instituted by the National Honors Act No. 5 of 1964, during the First Nigerian Republic, to honour Nigerians who have rendered service to the benefit of the nation. This year, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi happens to be among 447 distinguished recipients of this meritorious award conferred by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammad Buhari.
No doubt, Hon. Chukwuemelie Agu’s elation is driven from the enabling environment which the Governor has entrenched upon assumption of office which is responsible for the mileage of achievements recorded under his reign in the provision of affordable housing for the people of Enugu State and Nigerians at large. Some of these milestones attained which stands the governor out in the area of housing deserving of this national honour includes; Heritage Estate, proudly named to preserve the relics of our founding fathers as the name implies located at the Government Reserved Area, GRA of Coal City, Enugu. It Commands nine plots of 1,000 square meters. It is expected to house thirty-six occupants when fully completed. The housing design is semi detached duplexes a low density development that is for the high income earners. It also houses Ziks Flat which is a museum that represents the early leader of the old south-eastern region. In the Ziks Museum, you have Zik’s paraphernalia like the cloths he wore, the pen he used, the shoes he wore and his glasses. All will be on exhibition for the public to access. The Estate is serviced with well drained asphalt roads. It is also connected to the national grid in term of electricity. The occupation of the estate is ongoing and further development is ongoing too. Valley 1 Estate: Surrounded by Valleys which provides the ambience and environmental aesthetics, Valley Estate is located at Government Reserved Area, GRA, in the axis of Iva- Valley at the Enugu-Port court expressway. It is a med-density development estate where some areas are reserved for high income earners while the rest is reserved for medium density. It has eighty-four plots of land. Fifteen of them are low density development area while the sixty-nine is medium density development. It is expected at completion to house over seven hundred and fifty households. It has a well drained asphalt road. It is also connected to the national grid in term of electricity with a 500KVA transformer.
Valley Estate 2. Bounded on the east by Enugu-Onitsha expressway, on the North by Valley extension layout, on the west by Iva-Valley road and on the south by Comprehensive Secondary school, Iva-Valley. Valley Estate 2. This prestigious estate is an off shoot of Valley Estate 1. It has over two hundred plots of land measuring five hundred and forty square meters each. It is expected to house middle income earners. It is a medium density development area. The estate is being constructed with dual side drain and earth work is ongoing. Transparency Estate: The Transparency Estate is a bastion of relaxation and family upbringing. It is located at the Uwani area of Enugu State. It is a low density development area of about forty-two plots measuring 1000 square meters each. It is serviced by well drained asphalted roads. It has ancillary facilities such as Corner shops, recreation area and is expected to house 180 households upon completion. It is bounded at the south by Christ Church Uwani and on the east by Nigerian Police College. On the North it is bounded by Agangwu River. It is a development for the low income earners. WTC Estate: The WTC Estate provides inviting conveniences and is situated at the heart of the town. It is located between Ogui New layout and Independence layout. It is bounded in the east by University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus also on the south by the same University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. It is bounded on the west by Ani Street, Ogui New layout and on the north by Metropolitan Secondary school. It has about 135 plots of land of 1000 square meter each. It is a low density development area. It is serviced by dual drainage roads and two 300KVA transformer connecting the estate to the national grid energizing the estate. It has commercial plots and recreational facilities. Citadel Phase 2 Estate: Located on the fringes of the foremost and prestigious Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Independence layout, Enugu and bounded on the west by Queens school, on the south by University of Nigeria, Enugu campus. On the north, it is bounded by the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT. It has about 58 plots of 1000 square meters. It is serviced with well drained asphalted roads and electrified by a transformer of 300KVA capacity. It is a low density development area expected to house over 104 household at completion. Citadel Estate phase 1: The Citadel Estate 1 presents a blend of privacy and family life. It is located at Independence Layout close to Rector’s village.
It is bounded by Prime estate by the east, Rectors village on the south, IMT on the west and north. It is a low density development area of about seventy plots of 1000 square meters each. It is serviced by well drained asphalted road and energized with a 300KVA transformer. It has commercial plots and recreational plot for the relaxation of residents and is for high income earner. it is expected to house 140 households upon completion. Victory Estate: The Victory Estate stands out as a must live for the upwardly mobile persons. It is located along old airport, Emene road at Emene. It is bounded in the north by Emene road, in the east by Hapel Engineering. It is a medium density development area of 18 plots of 750 square meters. It is serviced by well drained asphalt road and electrified by a 300KVA transformer. It is expected to house 54 households. Trinity Estate: The Trinity Estate embodies privacy and provides inviting ambience necessary for family. It is along the old Emene road. It is a medium and low density development area where some plots measure up to 2,000 square meters while the majority measure 700 square meters. It is expected to house above 60 households upon completion and the internal roads are asphalted and energized with a 300KVA transformer. It has security and well gated; meaning one entry and exit. The estate is manned by armed security operatives. Veritage Estate: The Veritage Estate is positioned and poised to the serve as a melting pot for elegance and family upbringing when completed. It is one of the newest estates being undertaken by the corporation located at trans-ekulu axis of Enugu off Sani Abacha Street towards I-connect Estate. It is medium density development area of about 120 plots measuring 550 square meters. It is under construction and drainage system is being done even as the electrification is being carried out. The estate is expected to house over 480 households when completed. Himalayas Estate: Sprawling on about 115 hectares of land to serve as a confluence of estates with an estate. It is located at Ama-akpaka, Ugwuogo-Nike in Enugu-East Local Government Area of Enugu State. It is immediately after Ogbeke community or Iyi-ukwu River. It is located at the uphill part of the town. It is properly drained and the hydrology is good. The Estate is being developed and will have a mixed density of low, medium and high with over 1,000 plots. It will have a low density area of 300 plots, high density of over 400 plots while medium density will be over 400 plots. At completion, we will have estates within the estate where multiple estates connect with each other.
Conquest Estate: Seated at the uphill location off Trans-Ekulu, towards Abor community. It is a massive development area of over 120 hectares of land. It is going to have prototype houses, 300 detached bungalows of 3-bedrooms and 2-bedrooms with over 1,400 service plots of various seizes not less than 600 square meters each. It is expected to be freely developed not exceeding four households per plot. The developmental work is ongoing as can be seen at the access road, electrification and building of houses.
Coal City View Estate: Typifies the copious view from an uphill of the Coal City. It is located along the 9th Mile axis of Enugu by Ozalla, Abor. It is a massive housing project where work has commenced on the development of 1-bedroom terrace and 2-bedroom terrace bungalows. It also have 3-bedrrom detached bungalows there. Work is still ongoing at the 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom semi detached bungalows.
All-in-all, we will have over 750 housing units ranging from 1-2-3 bedroom bungalows. It has other site and services facilities like a military hospital which has been completed. It also has plans for community services like schools, and markets.
Gateway Estate: Established at a border community of Ugwu-Oba, primed as a nexus between the people of Enugu and Anambra States. This estate is a massive housing project undertaken by the corporation. It is sitting on about 150 hectares of land. It is bounded on the south by Enugu-Onitsha expressway, on the other fringes by Ugwu-Oba Community. The project is ongoing. It is expected to have a commercial hub where a commercial resort will spring up. The estate will also have educational facilities. The residential area will also have low, medium and high density areas. The estate is targeting the residence of Awka among others.
Town and Gown Estate: Distinctly situated by Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Agbani and ear marked to house the staff of the university. It is intended to house 250 units of 2-bedroom semi detached bungalows in addition to over 190 service plots measuring 450-600 square meters. The service plots are expected to house over 800 households. In all, we will be having 1050 households upon completion. It has a host of facilities such as nursery and primary school, place of worship, recreational and commercial facilities. The project is ongoing. The perimeter fencing has begun even as the access roads have been opened up. The drainage is been done and the gate house is also under construction. It is expected to be connected to the national grid.
Rangers Phase 1 Estate: Named after the victorious Fly Antelopes of Enugu, Rangers Footbal Club haven won the 2016 National Premier League, this estate is located at Akagbe-Ugwu. It is about two minutes drive from the heart of the town.. It has about 24 service plots and seventy-eight 3-bedroom bungalows under construction. It is expected to house about 130 household at completion. Our target population is the medical practitioners at UNTH. The estate will be serviced by drainage roads and will be connected to the national grid.
Rangers Estate Phase 2: It is also along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway. It has about 116 serviced plots. The roads are drained but yet to be tarred. It is a medium density development area of 600 square meters per plot. It is expected to house over 300 households when completed. It will be connected to the national grid and asphalted. The estate also houses 20 units of 3-bedrrom semi detached bungalows that are fully developed and occupied by the residents. The internal roads interlocked and fully electrified and sold out. It is expected that the 20 units of 3-bedrrom semi detached bungalows will catalyze development of the nearby phase 2 estate.
Sandview Estate: Pitched at the Akwuke, Awkunano axis of the metropolis and bounded at the north by MTD Police Station, on the east by the Science Education Development road and on the west by Community Secondary School Akwuke. It is intended for high rise development that is 3 floors and above. It has about 46 plots of 600 square meters. Each plot is expected to sit four floors of varying housing units. Development is already in 8 units of 12 flats of 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom.It is expected that it will house 120 units of 1-2 bedrooms on 10 plots of the estate. The remaining is to be developed at site and services basis using the same house type.
