AGILE: Zamfara constructs 42 new secondary schools

The Zamfara Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project met with contractors engaged for the proposed construction of 42 new secondary schools in the state.

The new facilities comprise senior and junior secondary schools across the 14 local government areas of Zamfara State.

The construction of the 42 new senior and junior secondary schools forms part of the Zamfara AGILE Project’s broader intervention under Component 1.1 – Creating New Safe Learning Spaces in Secondary Schools, aimed at expanding access to quality education, reducing barriers to school enrolment and creating secure learning environments that promote improved educational outcomes across Zamfara State.

This marks another significant milestone in the state’s drive to improve access to safe, inclusive and quality secondary education.

The Component 1.1 – Creating New Safe Learning Spaces in Secondary Schools Lead, Arc. Ibrahim Ahmed Nahuche, presided over the meeting last week.

He emphasised the importance of strict adherence to project specifications, quality standards and timely execution of the contracts.

The meeting served as a strategic platform for aligning all stakeholders before the commencement of construction works, as key discussions focused on the formal introduction of supervising consultants to the contractors to strengthen coordination and ensure effective project supervision throughout the implementation period.

As part of the commitment to transparency, accountability and professionalism, all contractors signed the project’s Code of Conduct, reaffirming their obligation to uphold ethical standards, comply with contractual requirements and maintain professionalism throughout project execution.

Participants also deliberated extensively on the timeline for the official handover of project sites to the contractors, with clear guidance provided to facilitate a smooth commencement of works across the designated locations.

Contractors were given the opportunity to raise and clarify any ambiguities contained in the contract documents while confirming their acceptance of the approved contract sums and implementation conditions.

The meeting also highlighted the environmental and social (E&S) requirements governing the projects, with contractors reminded of their responsibility to fully comply with environmental safeguards, occupational health and safety standards, community engagement protocols and other applicable social protection measures throughout the construction period.

In addition, payment arrangements and procedures were clearly explained to ensure transparency, accountability and mutual understanding of the financial processes associated with contract implementation.

He urged contractors and consultants to work collaboratively, maintain high construction standards and deliver the projects within the agreed timelines.
