The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, has charged the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to deliver a world-class sporting event at the 2026 Obasa Games.
Vinod gave the charge when he received members of the Obasa Games 2026 Local Organising Committee, led by its Chairman, Dr. Moshood Ajibola.
The visit followed the official press conference held earlier on Tuesday to unveil the fourth edition of the Obasa Games, which will run from November 7 to December 5, 2026.
The flagship grassroots multi-sports tournament, organised by Kings Sports International, was established in honour of the Rt. Hon. Speaker for his exemplary leadership, commitment to youth development, and lasting legacy in Agege and Lagos State.
With the 2026 theme, “One Lagos, Many Talents, One Brighter Future”, the LOC briefed the Chairman on preparations to make this year’s edition bigger, more inclusive, and more competitive. The focus will be on discovering grassroots talent and fostering unity across communities.
The Agege LG Executive Chairman praised the vision behind the Games, describing them as a fitting tribute to the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, whose leadership continues to inspire a generation. He assured the Committee of Agege Local Government’s full support in delivering a world-class tournament.
Dr. Moshood Ajibola said: “The 2026 Obasa Games will begin in Epe, starting on November 7 with the football event, while the other sports events kick off on November 16.
“The District Elimination process will conclude on November 24. The finals for the six other sports events are scheduled for December 2.
“For the football event, 62 U18 teams have been drawn from the 57 LGA/LCDAs. The first phase is a knockout stage, while the second phase comprises 32 teams in the group stage.
“There’s an increase in the total prize money, from N12million to N14 million. The seven sports will share a pool of N14 million, with chess, scrabble, Ayo Olopon, and athletics allocated N1 million each.
Two million has been earmarked for table tennis and boxing, while football received the largest share at N6 million.”
The Obasa Games 2026 is more than football—it is a celebration of talent, unity, and the enduring legacy of a great leader.
