The Agbekoya Peace Movement has urged South West governors to permit the group to flush kidnappers out of the region.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos, spokesperson of the organisation, Adewole Ireti Ayomide, expressed worry at the protracted insecurity in the region, insisting that the group had the capacity to tackle the security scourge across the South West.
“The South West region has been the target of some criminal elements working as kidnappers. They have invaded our forests, making it difficult for the people to travel across the region.
“Reports that kidnappers and bandits have relocated to the South West region are disturbing. What it means is that we are prone to attack. Therefore, we must keep them at bay,” he said.
While urging the governors in the South West to partner with the group, Ayomide maintained said the best way to address the insecurity in the region is to unite and forge a common front that will enhance partnership between the government security agencies and the security organisations at the grassroots.
“We can no longer allow bandits and kidnappers to make our region a haven for terrorists. If the governors can partner with the Agbekoya Peace Movement, we will spate of insecurity in the region within six months,” he said.
