Bandits, in the early hours of yesterday abducted  Aondo Ver, said to be a director in the Federal Housing Authority, Federal Capital Territory, from his home at Pambara in Bwari Area Council of Abuja.

The gunmen were said to have attacked Ver’s home located about 200 metres to a military base in the area, shooting sporadically  before escaping through the bushes with their victim.

The family told Daily Sun that the kidnappers had not yet contacted them for ransom.

Residents in the area, who confirmed the development to journalists, said that military personnel were stationed at a military base popularly known as ‘camp’, which is about 200 metres away from where the director was abducted in Pambara Extension.

They further noted that residents of the area that were attacked by bandits included military personnel, both serving and retired, and civilians.

A resident in the area who does not want to be mentioned in print for fear of being attacked said: “The attack happened very close to a ‘camp,’ the military base at the entrance of Bwari very close to Pambara Extension. The part of Pambara Extension where Mr Ver was kidnapped is just about 200 metres away from the military base. But the kidnappers escaped through the bushes with the victim.”

He said:“The attack is still shocking to us. Our estate is very close to the military base here known as ‘camp’ at the entrance of Bwari, and there are also serving and retired military personnel living with us here, yet the bandits were bold enough to attack this place and kidnap Mr Ver.”

For some time now, Bwari, a satellite town in the FCT, has become a den of bandits who have continued to ravage the village and its surroundings with their deadly activities.

Only a few weeks ago, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, launched the Special InterventionSquad to curb the menace and bring kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area to a stop.

Several deployments of men and drones in the area are yet to yield the expected results as residents still live in fear.

On Wednesday, the IGP, announced the posting of a new police commissioner, who was one time in charge of operations in the FCT police command as the new police commissioner.

The FCT police public relations officer Josephine Adeh, was  yet to confirm or deny the report of the kidnapped incident at the time of filing this report.
