From Ighomuaye Lucky, Benin
The Benin Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) yesterday, again, queried the Edo state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on his pattern of running the state owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma without a Governing Council, describing the government idea as foreign to the University system and administration globally.
Addressing newsmen in Benin, Cordinator, ASUU Benin Zone, Prof. Fred Esumeh accompanied by other chapters chairpersons on the zone appealed to the Edo state government to jettison the bizzare system introduced in the state owned university by constituting a Governing Council for the University and abrogate the Special Intervention Team (SIT) law.
Esumeh while calling on stakeholders to prevail on the Edo state government to do the needful in the institution and restore the citadel of learning to its past glory, said the present University Administration may de-market the quality and value of certificates of degree programmes in global competitiveness due to academic fraud being perpetuated in the name of forced resumption of academic activities in the University and the illegal conduct of examinations.
“The Benin Zone of ASUU is seriously disturbed by these developments and is in contact with its National leadership to call the attention of the NUC in particular, and other relevant authorities to the academic fraud going on in AAU, Ekpoma.” he said.
