AFWL: When Mary Martin strutted Coffee Queen dress on runway

Style9

Excitement and admiration flowed like electric current through the audience of fashionistas and couture critics who witnessed the showcasing of the Mary Martin Gala Collection at the Africa Fashion Weekend London held recently.

The collection included sculptural Cocoon Dress, Eagle Dress, A Day in Paris, and other bold statement pieces.

The global fashion label opened the VIP catwalk showcase at AFWL with the Coffee Queen Dress

The Kawah Coffee Queen Dress is one of the most meaningful pieces from the gala collection.

It was created to honour the women coffee farmers of Kinunu, Rwanda, on the shores of Lake Kivu. These women work from early morning, nurturing and harvesting the coffee that eventually reaches cups around the world.

The bodice is decorated with real coffee beans, bringing the story and aroma of coffee directly into the garment. The flowing skirt represents the beautiful hills and landscape where Kawah coffee is grown.
