Africa’s energy sector to address critical challenges in the industry

As Africa’s energy sector undergoes rapid transformation, industry leaders, global investors and policymakers are set to gather in Cape Town for the African Energy Week (AEW) 2025: Invest in African Energies conference.

The event, which has officially launched its programme, will spotlight Africa’s vast energy potential, from upstream oil and gas to renewable energy and infrastructure development.

With Africa poised to become a global energy powerhouse, AEW 2025 aims to drive investment, unlock new projects, and address critical challenges in the industry. The conference will feature high-level discussions on oil and gas exploration, energy finance, and the transition towards cleaner energy. It will also serve as a hub for deal-making, bringing together investors and project developers to accelerate the continent’s energy ambitions.

One of the key highlights this year is the G20 Energy Leaders Roundtable, coming as South Africa hosts the 20th G20 Summit. Additionally, the OPEC and BRICS roundtables will explore Africa’s role in global energy markets, while a COP30 session will focus on the continent’s position in climate negotiations.

Africa’s oil and gas sector continues to attract record investments, with capital expenditure projected to reach $43 billion in 2025. West Africa is leading in exploration and production, while emerging markets like Namibia, Senegal, and Mozambique are gaining traction. At the same time, the push for green hydrogen, solar, wind, and gas-to-power solutions is reshaping Africa’s energy landscape, as nations work towards a just energy transition.

Beyond discussions, AEW 2025 will celebrate industry achievements with the African Energy Awards & Gala Dinner and kick off the week with the Just Energy Transition Concert. The event reaffirms its position as the premier platform for shaping Africa’s energy future, ensuring the continent plays a defining role in the global energy equation.
