Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has earned recognition from the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) for her impactful work in girl-child education, hygiene, and reducing maternal and child mortality.
The honour, announced Sunday at OAFLAD’s 29th and 30th Ordinary General Assemblies, spotlighted Tinubu’s welfare initiatives for mothers and children. She was represented by Wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

OAFLAD, driving the “We Are Equal” campaign, champions gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and education continent-wide. The Addis Ababa meeting stressed African unity to tackle women’s and children’s challenges, particularly in conflict zones.
According to a statement issued by Mrs Shettima’s spokesperson, Kwapchi Hamman, Sierra Leone’s First Lady and OAFLAD Chairperson, Fatima Maada Bio, praised Mrs. Tinubu as a vocal advocate for women, linking sustainable development to peace and warning that women’s rights falter in unstable settings.
Ghana’s First Lady, Lordina Mahama, echoed the call, urging investments in girl-child education and support for women artisans to foster lasting livelihoods.
