The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has introduced prize monies to athletes as incentives for the Africa Games evaluation meet billed to hold from February 2-3, 2024 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

According to a letter dated January 27, 2024 and signed by AFN Secretary General Rita Mosindi, addressed to State associations chairmen, secretaries, coaches, military, para military and clubs made available to Daily Sun Sports, price monies will be given to athletes from 1-6th positions and 1-3rd positions respectively.

In the letter, the events were divided into Premium and Classic events in the 100m, 400m, 1500, 400mH, High Jump, Long Jump for the men’s event while the women’s event has 100m, 400m 800m, 500m, 100mH, Discus Triple jump and Race work.

A breakdown of the prize money for Premium events states that; N40, 000 for 1st position, N30, 000 for 2nd position, 3rd position attracts N25, 000, while the 4th, 5th and 6th positions attract N20, 000, N15, 000, N10, 000 respectively.

The Classic events prize money is pegged at N25, 000 for 1st position, N20, 000 for 2nd position and N15, 000 for 3rd place.

Also transport subsidies of N15, 000 each will be given to 1st-4th position on the 2023 Golden League Ranking, while accommodation will be provided for 1st -8th positions in the same ranking.

Meanwhile promotional events in men’s 200m, 800m, Shot Put, 20,000 Race Walk, 300m Steeplechase, Women’s 200m, 1500m, 400mH, Javelin, Shot Put, 3, 000m, Steeple Chase and Heptathlon does not attract prize monies.
