The President of the Athletics Coaches Association of Nigeria, Solomon Aliyu has urged his supporters to ignore rumours claiming that he has stepped down in favour of another candidate for the Coaches’ Representative position on the Board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

The former international athlete stated that he has not been in discussions with any individual or group regarding his candidacy and is not prepared to withdraw his ambitions.

“Some people approached me saying they heard I’ve decided to step down for someone else in the race for the coaches’ representative on the incoming board. Such rumours are completely untrue,” he said.

“I have not consulted with anyone, and I advise anyone thinking of approaching me about this to abandon those ideas because I am not ready to give up my ambition.”

Aliyu emphasised the need for coaches to have a stronger voice on the outgoing board, reinforcing his motivation to run for the position.

“Given that coaches have not had much influence in the past, we need to reposition ourselves, and that’s why I am pursuing this opportunity,” he explained.

“I have served as the president of the TACFAN for some time, and I am proud of what we have accomplished as an organisation. Joining the board will enable us to build on our achievements thus far.”
