The atmosphere was electric in Lagos and Ibadan on Saturday evening as MTN Nigeria hosted watch parties for the highly anticipated AFCON quarter-final match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Algeria’s Desert Foxes.
The giant telecommunications company brought the excitement of the African Cup of Nations to life by transforming various centres into buzzing hubs of football frenzy.
At the various centres, fans clad in green-white-green donned their game faces, cheering and chanting as the Super Eagles took on the Desert Foxes.
The energy was palpable as Nigeria stormed to a 2-0 victory, courtesy of stunning head strike from Victor Osimhen and a leg strike by Akoh Adams in the second half.
The MTN watch parties provided platforms for fans to catch the live action of the match, which was highly dominated by the Super Eagles. It was an experience designed to amplify the excitement and camaraderie of AFCON fever.
With large screens, lively commentary, and a contagious energy, supporters from all walks of life came together to cheer on their beloved Super Eagles.

The victory sparked jubilation across Nigeria, with fans ecstatic about the team’s chances in the semi-finals.
“This is what we’ve been waiting for! The Super Eagles are on fire!” exclaimed a delighted fan after a watch party in Ibadan.
A fan of the Super Eagles, Festus Jonathan, also said at one of the watch parties in Lagos: “Massive respect to the Super Eagles! All those early morning sessions, tactical drills, and team unity have turned this squad into a beast. Beating Algeria so convincingly didn’t happen by chance, it’s pure graft and heart. Thank you MTN for organising this watch party. I could have stayed in my house and watched, but I won’t have this kind of vibe.”
Another fan, who introduced herself as Florence Ade, stated: “What a win against the second unbeaten team in the tournament. Eric Chelle deserved a chilled bottle of wine. The other guy knew what he was saying when he said he was afraid of Nigeria. He said it and we did it.”
The MTN representative stated further that as Nigeria celebrates the win over Algeria, eyes are already on the next match, which will be between Nigeria and Morocco
He added that MTN Nigeria is gearing up to host more electrifying watch parties, bringing fans closer to the action and the thrill of AFCON.
