The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has written to its member associations, including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), seeking their opinions on whether the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) should be held every two or four years, BSNSports.com.ng reports.Stream Soccer
The member associations have been given until Wednesday to submit their positions on the proposed change to the frequency of Africa’s biggest football tournament.
Early indications suggest that several member associations may favour retaining the current two-year cycle rather than adopting a four-year format.
The consultation comes amid discussions about the future structure of African football’s flagship national team competition.
However, CAF is yet to make an official decision on whether AFCON will continue to be held every two years or switch to a four-year cycle.
The positions submitted by the member associations are expected to contribute to the ongoing deliberations on the tournament’s future.
