The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation into the nasty clashes that occurred following Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Algeria in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal in Marrakech.

Africa Soccer says that the CAF is assessing reports from referees, security personnel, and media representatives.

Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams scored in the second half to ensure the Super Eagles’ progress into the semi-final.

However, the Algerians were furious at full-time, targeting the match officials for what they perceived as unfair decisions.

The players tried to assault referee Issa Sy and his assistants, and the stadium security had to intervene.

There was also disturbance from the Algerian fans in the stands, and they attempted to breach barriers and reportedly vandalised parts of the stadium.
