The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has named Dahane Beida of Mauritania as the centre referee for Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group C match against Tanzania.

Beida is among Africa’s most experienced referees.

The arbitrator was in charge of the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) during the opening game of AFCON 2025 between hosts Morocco and the Comoros on Sunday night.

The Atlas Lions won the encounter 2-0 courtesy of goals from Brahim Díaz and Ayoub El Kaabi.

The Super Eagles will take on Tanzania in Group C’s opening fixture at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Tuesday.

It will be the second-ever meeting between the two countries at the AFCON.

Nigeria won the first meeting 3-1 at the 1980 AFCON finals.
