Ahead of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash with Algeria, Super Eagles Captain Wilfred Ndidi has offered to personally cover the team’s winning bonuses should the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and National Sports Commission (NSC), fail to release the payments on time.

According to NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, all allowances for the tournament in Morocco have already been cleared and paid in cash. However, the winning bonuses for the four games so far have not yet been paid, with no player confirming receipt of funds.

Federal Government sources indicate that the monies have been processed through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and that players are expected to start receiving alerts from today. Nevertheless, Ndidi has reportedly pledged to ensure the squad receives their bonuses if payments are not made before Saturday’s crucial match.

Addressing concerns over potential distractions, Tobi Adepoju Samuel, a known journalist who follows the national team on his X handle emphasized that the media is not the issue — it is the unresolved bonus payments that are affecting the players’ focus.

Ndidi’s gesture has been widely praised as a show of leadership and commitment to keeping team morale high ahead of the quarter-final tie.
