Aero Contractors has become the first airline to remit a sanction fee imposed by the Consumer Protection Department of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), marking a historic enforcement of passenger rights regulations.

The payment, announced today by the NCAA, represents the first time the department has successfully recovered costs for consumer protection violations since its establishment.

The NCAA’s Consumer Protection Department fined Aero Contractors for breaches of passenger rights protocols. By settling the penalty, the airline has set a precedent in an industry often criticised for lapses in customer service and compliance by airlines.

While neither Aero Contractors nor the NCAA has disclosed the amount that was remitted, industry observers emphasise the symbolic weight of the penalty.
