The former senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, on Tuesday stormed the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to meet with its national leadership and officially announce his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling party.
Aduda, who arrived at the secretariat in the company of hundreds of his supporters, held a closed-door meeting with the National Chairman of the party, Nantawe Goshwe Yilwatda.
The official defection of the former Senate Minority Leader had long been expected, following his proximity to the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, who has been deeply involved in campaigning for the success of APC candidates.
Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines after the meeting with the ruling party’s chairman, the apparently excited Aduda promised to attract a huge number of voters for President Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.
The former FCT representative argued that the recently held FCT Area Councils election, in which the APC won five out of the six chairmanship seats, is a pointer to what to expect from the territory in the presidential election.
“I have a lot of supporters for the president in the 2027 general election, because, like the state chairman rightfully said that I was the problem here, any time there was a problem about winning the election, it had to do with me.
“So, I have decided to align and realign and bring myself and then work for Mr President. I am sure we will close to victory by the special grace of God. It will not be anything difficult.

“You can see at the last area council elections what happened. We collaborated and came together, and we had five over six. I can assure you that it will be six over six in the presidential election. And by the special grace of God, we will deliver for Mr President from 2027,” he assured.
Asked if he had formally joined the APC, Aduda replied: “Of course, I have formally joined the APC.”
In his remarks, APC boss Yilwatda said he is happy with the latest defection into the party because it is in line with the current development, where those he identified as progressives are joining the party.
Yilwatda said, “The opposition politicians are joining the APC following the progressive programmes of the party and the leadership qualities of the president anchored on his Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“Because of the progressive nature of APC and the programmes of Mr President to the Renewed Hope Agenda, every progressive in Nigeria is queuing behind us. And that is why thousands and millions of Nigerians every day wake up, and they think of APC as the only alternative they have to deliver a progressive political structure in Nigeria.
“From the programmes that we’re implementing, they’re all progressive. So projects that you would never think would happen in Nigeria, we’re delivering them. We’re making reforms that have never happened in Nigeria.
“See the economic growth, see the structure of the economy, development that’s going on in Nigeria. Every right-thinking progressive is with us right now, and he’s one of them,” he noted.
Yilwatda further boasted that with the coming of Aduda, he is convinced that the North Central is ready to be delivered to the APC.
