One Dr. Ade, the physician who treated Senator Isiaka Adeleke when he complained of pain early Sunday morning is not in police detention, Daily Sun reliably learnt yesterday.
Although the doctor was reportedly arrested and quizzed by the police on Monday after report that the late politician died of overdose of medication he administered on him, it was gathered that he was allowed home after the interrogation, as there was no evidence to charge him of any crime. The report of the post mortem on the deceased’s corpse is yet to be out, to confirm the cause of death, amid rife speculation of poisoning or heat attack. The Osun State Police Commissioner, Funmihan Adeoye, had told reporters he was yet to be briefed on that aspect of the case. But, family sources told Daily Sun yesterday that the man was not in police custody, although, he is under their watch.
“The family can’t prove anything yet that could make him culpable until we get the autopsy report to either confirm, or disprove insinuation that brother died of overdose of painkillers.
No one knows the cause of his death, but he was said to have sent for the doctor whom he had been using when he complained of gout and pain in the leg at about 4.00am on Sunday. To relieve him of the severity of the pain, it’s not unlikely the man gave him more than the usual dosage of the drugs and injection.
The pathologist had asked us to bring the infusions, intravenous injections and cotton wool used on him for their examination and investigation and we have done so. Those who want to exonerate government are quick to tout a so called autopsy report as saying he died of overdose of painkillers. But, this is not authenticated at all. The truth is the report is yet to be out. But, it does not excuse the political insinuations being canvassed from all quarters.,” a family source said.

Family of Senator Isiaka Adeleke who passed on in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, last Sunday, has debunked rumours making the rounds, especially on the social and conventional media, on the cause of his death.
Reports on the social media and other sources had linked the death of the senator who represented Osun West in the Senate to food poison and administration of overdose of drugs by a medical doctor as well as his governorship ambition in 2018.
But his immediate younger brother, Mr Deji Adeleke, who addressed news men on behalf of the family yesterday, debunked the rumours, insisting that nobody could determine the cause of his death until the autopsy result was out.
He stressed that all the rumours and insinuations were not true, adding that only the autopsy already conducted on the late first civilian governor of Osun State could determine the true cause of his death.
He, therefore, called on the general public to disregard the rumours and await the report of the autopsy which could only confirm the true cause of the death.
Adeleke disclosed that the doctor who conducted the autopsy had told the family that it would take one to two weeks before the result would be released.
He said the family would have buried his late brother on the same day he died according to Muslim rites, but decided to delay it till the following day to ensure that the autopsy was conducted.
“We want to correct the wrong information that have been flying around, especially on the social and conventional media. They are all mere speculations and rumours.
He called on the people of Ede town and the state to remain calm and maintain peace, noting that his late brother was a man of peace and would not be happy that people were protesting or resorting to violence over his death.
“We urge his supporters to mourn him peacefully. Everybody should ignore the social media reports and mourn him peacefully. Our brother will not be happy that anybody is protesting his death,” Adeleke said.
“However, we want to mourn our late brother in peace and not in violence.”
Adeleke, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, governors and other dignitaries and the people of Osun State for sympathising with the family.
Meanwhile Idiat Babalola, an aide to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who was attacked by an angry mob at Adeleke’s funeral rites has explained reasons for the attack.
She said it came against the backdrop of what she described as unfounded rumours of her ambition to be deputy governor when Governor Rauf Aregbesola left office next year.
Babalola, who was attacked shortly after arriving the venue of the burial, said she had sensed trouble when some of the hoodlums started throwing tantrums that suggested that her rumoured deputy governorship ambition was to checkmate the governorship ambition of the late senator, who had openly declared his intention to succeed Governor Aregbesola.
Babalola who served in the last cabinet as Special Adviser to the Governor on Federal Matters and current nominee for the new cabinet said: “I am a proud daughter of Ede and Uncle Isiaka had been a mentor and we never had any disagreement till the news of his death was broken to me while in Lagos on Sunday morning. I was heartbroken and immediately cut off my other engagements and came down to Ede from Lagos.
“Those who masterminded the attacks on me were people with poor understanding of the relationship between us and who acted based on their own political permutations only.
“Not long after we sat down for the prayers, I sensed some hoodlums saying some things like I wanted to be deputy governor, whereas Uncle Adeleke had declared his ambition to be governor from the same Ede. I heard them talking about the new caretaker committee members being more of my loyalists than those of Senator Adeleke. And before we knew it, they grew more daring and unruly and brought down the canopy under which the dignitaries sat.”
She, however, expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, whom she said dropped the honour of being a governor to practically engage the hoodlums and rescued her.
