National Chairman of the Accord Party, Maxwell Mgbudem, has described the defection of the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the party.
Mgbudem, at a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, said since Adeleke’s defection to the party, it has witnessed influx of supporters and has encouraged other members to wake up.
He said: “Since His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke joined Accord along with his political associates and supporters, our party has witnessed tremendous national acceptance as thousands of Nigerians join and identify with Accord across the country, a testament to Governor Adeleke’s political influence and national appeal. “He has attracted numerous Nigerians to Accord which has placed the party at the forefront of our democratic process.”
On the contrary, he said the expulsion of the party’s former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen whom he claimed wanted to arrogate to himself a party position he never had, was also a blessing to the party.
“I consider it appropriate to address this fake news and propaganda being spread by Imumolen, particularly his recent interview on TVC and Channels TV, where he falsely claimed to be the party chairman and ‘nominated’ a governorship candidate for Osun State.
“It is laughable and a joke taken too far in making a mockery of our nation’s hard earned democracy.
“Obviously, no right thinking person will take Imumolen’s outburst on national television seriously. Sadly, he has been projecting himself as a noise maker in the political scene after his expulsion from Accord.
“Going forward, we shall not join issues with any expelled member desperately seeking relevance.
“In sheer desperation, Prof Imumolen, who did not participate in the convention rushed to court with an ex parte motion, misled the court and obtained an order of court on August 3, 2025 and foisted himself as national chairman of Accord which he published in the media. With the purported order, he went to the party’s national secretariat, threw decorum to the wind and broke into the office with thugs.
“The national leadership quickly approached the court and filed the motion No. M/11943/2024, seeking for an order of court to set aside the order of court obtained by fraud. Despite the fact that Imumolen did not serve the party the court processes, we got the hint of it through the social media and entered appearance accordingly.
“On September 2, 2024, Justice M.M. Adamu, FCT High Court Vacation Court 3, ruled: ‘There are a lot of deliberate confusions caused. Processes and rules of court must be adhered to. The applicants ought to serve their motion on notice first, which would be followed by counter claims and other responses.
“I expect the claimant (Imumolen) to serve his motion on notice to all parties concerned and expect their reactions and responses. It shall be noted that interim orders lapse after seven days. From there I ordered for a status quo to be maintained pending the outcomes of the motion on notice,” he added.
