Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved the implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government for Osun State University (UNIOSUN), including the commencement of arrears payment from January 2026.

The approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Ademola Adesoji, the Public Relations Officer of UNIOSUN.

The statement said the implementation covers key components of the agreement, including Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA), Tax-free Consolidated Tools Allowance (CATA) and Professorial Allowances.

The initiative, according to the statement, is expected to improve staff welfare, strengthen institutional stability, and promote industrial harmony within the university.

Reacting, Dr. Wende Olaosebikan, chairman of ASUU at UNIOSUN, described the governor’s decision as timely and impactful, thanking Adeleke for what he called a “life-impacting decision” and support for workers’ welfare.

Olaosebikan also commended the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. Wale Oladipo, members of the University Council, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, for proactive leadership in securing approvals and ensuring effective execution of the agreement.

The Ibadan Zone of ASUU described the development as a “triumph of dialogue and justice” in university labour relations, emphasizing the importance of sustained engagement between government and labour unions.

Stakeholders noted that paying the arrears and implementing the new allowances is expected to boost staff morale, improve productivity, and stabilize the academic environment, positioning UNIOSUN as one of the leading state-owned universities in Nigeria in complying with academic staff welfare agreements.
