Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has confirmed a report by The Sun, stating that he has finalized arrangements with the Accord Party to contest his re-election in 2026.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday, Adeleke officially unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform during an event at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, attended by national and state leaders of the Accord Party.

“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026,” the governor announced. This move follows weeks of consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.

Adeleke emphasized the rationale behind his significant decision, saying that “Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We are pursuing re-election on the Accord Party platform to complete our delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded both at home and abroad.

“The Accord Party’s mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare,” he added, symbolizing the governance philosophy he wishes to continue.

He welcomed the party leaders into the Government House, stating, “You are now part of us as I am also now part of you. We are united in our progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”

Adeleke highlighted the importance of unity as they prepare for the upcoming elections, stressing the need for inclusive leadership that addresses the interests of all groups. “Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over governance in Osun and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state,” he said.

Reflecting on his philosophy, he said, “Since I joined the party, I have been fascinated by its commitment to people’s welfare. The primary purpose of government is the welfare and well-being of the people.”

Adeleke reiterated his commitment to prioritizing welfare of the citizens, citing various policies and programs aimed at uplifting the community. He highlighted the progress made in governance and service delivery and expressed optimism for the future.

“Today, we unveil the new platform for the good people of Osun State. From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party, our new platform for victory in August next year,” he declared.

Adeleke appealed to the people of Osun to support the Accord Party, stating, “Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The mass of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year.”

This timely announcement follows an earlier report by The Sun on December 2, which indicated that Adeleke had reached an agreement with the leadership of the Accord Party, securing their endorsement for his candidacy.

A source within the Accord Party also confirmed this, promising that party leaders had agreed to nominate him for the governorship ticket. According to insiders, the official announcement was expected to occur imminently, possibly by December 10.
