Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has raised the alarm over what he termed an open threat by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola to rig the upcoming governorship election scheduled for next Saturday, August 15.
The governor vowed that the people of Osun will fiercely resist any attempt to subvert their mandate.
Governor Adeleke’s reaction comes in the wake of a viral video in which Oyetola claimed that no amount of political endorsements could save the governor from defeat, dismissing claims of President Bola Tinubu’s backing.
In a statement issued yesterday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke clarified that his previous endorsement of President Tinubu was a testament to his administration’s political strength and ability to deliver Osun votes to the president.
Adeleke further accused Oyetola of engaging in anti-people and anti-democratic activities that are tarnishing the president’s image and driving the Osun APC further into unpopularity among local residents.

The governor called on national and international pro-democracy groups to intervene, alleging that Oyetola has been orchestrating police harassment against members of the Accord party due to an unholy alliance between APC thugs and elements within the state police command.
Describing Oyetola’s remarks as a direct threat to free and fair elections from a serving federal minister, Adeleke claimed the comments confirm that the APC has lost the confidence of the electorate and is relying solely on rigging.
“The minister has made a mockery of innocent Accord members who were killed and maimed by APC thugs in cold blood in the last two months. He has told the world that he is pushing to deny the people their rights to vote and be voted for.
“The bad news for the minister is that Osun people are determined to resist his sadistic agenda. Our people rejected him in 2022 and they will reject his surrogate candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, next Saturday,” Adeleke said.
Reiterating his confidence at the polls, Adeleke said, “As for us, we are winning this election by the grace of God and the mass support of the people. We are not going to snatch the democratic rights of the people as Mr. Oyetola has threatened. We will be re-elected by the choice of the voters.”
