Madam Olufunmilayo Adelabu, mother of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has shared a deeply emotional account of how her daughter and twin grandsons were abducted just a day after she had prayed for victims of kidnapping in Oyo State.
Speaking from her residence in the Challenge area of Ibadan on Sunday, the elderly matriarch said the incident left her devastated, describing it as a painful experience no mother should endure.
She said the news of the abduction came as a shock, especially given her prayers the previous day for the safe return of victims kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area.
“I was devastated when I heard what had happened. It brought me to tears because no mother wishes to receive such frightening news about her children and grandchildren,” she said.
Madam Adelabu explained that she had sincerely prayed for the release of kidnapped victims in Oriire, asking for their safe return, without knowing her own family would face a similar fate shortly after.
“I never imagined that the very next day, my daughter and grandchildren would become victims of a similar incident,” she added.

She described the experience as a stark reminder that insecurity cuts across all families, regardless of social or political status, and can strike without warning.
Despite the trauma, she expressed gratitude to God and security agencies for the successful rescue of her daughter and grandchildren.
“I thank God Almighty for preserving their lives and bringing them back to us safely. I also appreciate the Nigeria Police Force, government officials and all well-meaning Nigerians who stood by us,” she said.
Madam Adelabu also extended her thoughts to other families still affected by kidnappings across the country, stressing that her relief would only be complete when all victims regain freedom.
“My joy will be complete when every victim still in captivity regains freedom and returns home safely,” she said.
She urged security agencies and relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes, expressing hope that Nigeria would achieve lasting peace and security.
