From Taiwo Oluwadare
An aide to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Femi Awogboro, has dismissed reports claiming that top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) advised the minister to abandon his governorship ambition in Oyo state.
Awogboro described the reports as ‘sponsored’ and orchestrated by individuals allegedly threatened by Adelabu’s growing influence within the party and the state’s political landscape.
The aide specifically refuted claims that former governors, Adebisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba, had asked Adelabu to step down from the 2027 governorship race. According to him, both elder statesmen remain steadfast supporters and political mentors to the minister.
“Chief Akande and Chief Osoba believe strongly in Adelabu’s capacity to uphold progressive ideals in Oyo state. They have consistently supported and encouraged him since his exit from the Central Bank of Nigeria to pursue a career in politics,” Awogboro said.
He also debunked allegations that APC South West leaders held a strategic meeting with Adelabu in Lagos to deliberate on his ambition and its potential impact on party cohesion and the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Awogboro insisted that no such meeting took place.

Reaffirming Adelabu’s political strength, the aide maintained that the minister enjoys broad-based support across the six geopolitical zones of Oyo state. He cited Adelabu’s track record as a businessman, administrator and politician as key factors driving his acceptance among the electorate.
“Adelabu has positively touched many lives. His support for youths, widows and the less privileged across the state cannot be overemphasised. Despite attempts by some individuals to discredit him, he continues to gain acceptance due to the love people have for him,” he added.
Awogboro further cautioned those behind the alleged misinformation campaign to desist, stressing that no level of character assassination would deter the minister from pursuing his gubernatorial ambition.
He also called on media organisations to uphold professionalism by verifying the authenticity of reports before publication and urged the public to remain supportive of Adelabu’s political aspirations.
Expressing confidence in his principal’s prospects, Awogboro said the minister remains committed to delivering on his promises if elected as governor of Oyo state.
