The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has congratulated former Kaduna State Governor and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, on his 70th birthday, describing him as an experienced statesman whose contribution to democratic governance remains valuable to Nigeria.
In a congratulatory message to mark the milestone, Adebayo said Makarfi’s 70 years provided an opportunity to reflect on his contributions to public service, leadership and the development of Kaduna State and Nigeria.
He commended the former governor’s long career in public life, particularly his tenure as governor of Kaduna and subsequent leadership of the PDP, saying both positions placed him at important points in the country’s political development.
Adebayo said Makarfi’s experience in governance and national politics had earned him a place among Nigeria’s elder statesmen, whose knowledge and perspectives remained relevant to the country’s quest for democratic stability and good governance.
“Reaching the age of 70 is a remarkable milestone and an opportunity to reflect on a life dedicated to public service, leadership and the development of our nation,” he said.

The SDP candidate said Makarfi’s tenure as governor came at an important period in Kaduna State’s history, while his leadership of the PDP placed him at the centre of national political engagement during a critical period of Nigeria’s democracy.
He said Makarfi’s contribution should be assessed not only by the offices he occupied but also by the experience and institutional knowledge he acquired through decades of participation in public affairs.
“At 70, I celebrate not only Senator Makarfi’s longevity but also his contributions to democratic governance, political engagement and public service,” Adebayo said.
He stressed the importance of experienced statesmen continuing to contribute to national development, particularly at a time when Nigeria needed constructive engagement across political and generational lines.
Adebayo said the country would benefit from the wisdom and counsel of leaders with extensive experience in governance and democratic processes.
He wished Makarfi good health, wisdom, peace and continued strength, praying for many more years of meaningful service and fulfilment.
