A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has said the party offers the strongest opportunity for an Igbo presidency, insisting that its current political arrangement is better positioned to achieve the long-sought goal.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Okonkwo argued that the ADC’s presidential ticket has strengthened the prospects of power returning to the South-East. He also accused the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, of working against the cause after allegedly leaving the ADC close to the deadline for nominations.
“Peter Obi is the one who is now working against Igbo presidency and vice presidency because he came to the ADC on his own, and he said he was going to contest under the ADC, and he left about just one week to the close of time,” Okonkwo said.

The lawyer maintained that the selection of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as the running mate to the ADC’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, further reinforces the party’s commitment to geopolitical balance and the South-East’s aspirations.
“I am talking about geopolitical balancing because Amaechi is Igbo; he is already the vice presidential candidate. And that is why I am saying that is what makes me even more favourably disposed that ADC is the surest path to Igbo presidency,” he stated.
Okonkwo added that he had no reservations about Amaechi’s emergence as the vice-presidential candidate, expressing confidence that the ADC ticket provides the most realistic route to producing an Igbo vice president and, ultimately, an Igbo president.
