A member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Leke Abejide, has expressed doubt over his party’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, declaring that the ADC cannot secure victory.
Speaking on Politics Today, Abejide argued that the current political realities make it difficult for opposition parties to unseat the incumbent, particularly given the influence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a “master of the game.”
“Is it easy to defeat Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a master of the game who won even when he was not in power, not to talk of now that he is in office?” he said.
The lawmaker also dismissed ongoing coalition talks among opposition groups, insisting that such alliances would not succeed.

According to him, it makes little sense to invest in an electoral battle that lacks a realistic chance of success.
“Nobody wants to waste time in an election. Something that cannot work, why must we put our hands into it? This coalition cannot work,” he stated.
Despite being a member of the ADC, Abejide acknowledged his close ties with the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that he relies on relationships within the ruling party to effectively carry out his legislative duties.
“In the National Assembly, I can’t work alone. I need people to work with, and those I can work with are in the APC,” he said, adding that he could not abandon his “brothers” because of party differences.
Abejide further confirmed that his “heart is in both APC and ADC,” maintaining that such a position is not unusual in Nigeria’s political landscape.
