Adams International College, Oshodi, Lagos, has rewarded three of its students who scored 344, 346 and 355 in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with cash gifts and medals for their sterling performances.
At an award ceremony, yesterday, the school also presented medals to over 110 other students who equally scored above 300.
Proprietor of college, Adams Adebola, attributed the feat to the school’s vision of raising resourceful and quality future leaders through unwavering zero tolerance for examination malpractice, which most unfortunately, has become the weak link of many teaching enterprises in Nigeria today.
He said for over two decades, the school has not compromised its standard. “Many desperate parents have proposed such uncanny synergies with us, but we have refused to be willing collaborators to the downward pull of excellence in the education sector to which we belong and hold dear to our hearts.
“We have students who scored 344, 346 and 355. You will discover two students went beyond the last feat recorded in 2020. It is against this backdrop that we feel motivated to celebrate our own, whose excellent performances remain a pride we can vouch for.”
One of the candidates, Owolabi Ajibola, who scored 304, said determination and focus helped him to achieve the feat.
“I converted from an arts student to a science student because my dream is to study mechanical engineering in university. Some of my friends laughed at me and suggested different things to discourage me but I remained steadfast and today, this is the result,” he said.
Ajibola’s mother, Owolabi Tiwalade, said with her son’s performance, she had no choice but to support his dream. Although she is a fruit seller and a widow, who lost her husband seven years ago, she said with God and assistance from family and friends, she would ensure her son’s dream becomes a reality.
