Adamawa Speaker, 14 other legislators leave PDP

By Billy Graham Abel, Yola

The Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Bathiya Wesley, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State.

The Speaker, who resigned in a letter dated 25 February 2025, cited crises at the state and national levels of the party, which he said have made it an impossible place for any meaningful political engagement.

Bathiya Wesley said: “I refer to the above subject and formally intimate you of my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“I took this decision as a necessity due to the crisis within the party at the national level, which makes the party’s structure largely ineffective, making it virtually impossible for any meaningful political engagement to take place therein.

“I sincerely appreciate the opportunity given to me to advance my political ambition under its platform and to render my contribution to its development since I joined the party.”

The Speaker’s resignation had earlier been heralded by the resignation of about 14 other members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, like the other 14 members, is yet to state his next political destination, as massive defections from the PDP are anticipated within the week.
