Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Kunle Afod has sent a Save-Our-Soul message to the Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji, seeking urgent intervention over a prolonged electricity blackout affecting four communities in Irewolede/Ijero Local Government Area of the state.
In an open letter shared on Facebook, Afod said residents of Iroko, Oke Oro, Ayegun and Temidire communities have been without power for about three years.
The actor said the blackout has taken a heavy toll on daily life in the affected areas.
The open letter reads, “Sir, I respectfully wish to bring to your attention the prolonged electricity blackout being experienced by residents of Iroko, Oke Oro, Ayegun and Temidire communities, under Irewolede/ljero Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
“These communities have been without electricity for about three years, and the situation has continued to affect businesses, homes, students and the general wellbeing of the people.”
Afod acknowledged efforts by the Oyebanji administration to improve living conditions in Ekiti, and appealed to the governor to extend those efforts to the four communities.
“Your administration has been making efforts to improve the lives of Ekiti people, and we sincerely appeal to you to use your good office to intervene in this matter and help restore electricity to these communities.
“Sir, these people are also citizens of Ekiti State. They deserve to benefit from the dividends of good governance and to enjoy the positive impact of your administration.
“We respectfully appeal for your urgent intervention. May God continue to strengthen you and bless your administration,” he said.
Afod stressed, “Ekiti deserves light. Our communities deserve attention.”
Power supply challenges have been a recurring issue in parts of Ekiti, with residents of rural communities often citing transformer faults, vandalism and poor grid connection as causes of prolonged outages.
