ACP slumps, dies in Bayelsa, sport journalist too

An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with the Bayelsa State Police Command, ACP, Oluseye Odunmbaku, is dead.

Until his death, he was Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Bayelsa State Police Command.

Findings indicated that Odunmbaku was found dead in his residence located at Okaka Estate, last Saturday. A police source said the deceased had woken up hale and hearty and had sent someone on an errand, but was later found dead.

“He had woken up and there was nothing wrong with him. He sent someone on an errand and when the fellow returned, he knocked several times and when there was no answer, he opened the door and found the lifeless body of the senior police officer on the floor.”

Sources said the police delayed the public announcement of the death, so that the family would have been informed. The police command in Bayelsa said it has opened a condolence register at the command headquarters, Ovom.

Also, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has been thrown into mourning following the death of Sammy Barida, a sports journalist with Royal FM, Yenagoa.

Barida, popularly known as Mr Gorgeous, was found dead on his bed at his residence, at the Royal FM Staff Quarters, Agudama- Epie, Yenagoa. The management of the radio station, in a statement, said his body has been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, morgue. Barida, who is survived by aged parents and siblings was, until his death, the Nigeria Unionof Journalists (NUJ) Chapel Chairman of Royal FM.
