Accolades as Asu Kunemofa marks another year of public service excellence

Warm tributes and messages of goodwill have continued to pour in from across Nigeria and beyond as Dr. Asu Kunemofa, Director of Finance and Accounts at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), celebrates her birthday, drawing attention to her impact in public service and leadership.

In a statement issued by the Board of Advisory Council, the occasion was described as a moment to honour a “trailblazer shaping Africa’s future,” highlighting Dr. Kunemofa’s contributions to financial governance, transparency, and development within the NDDC.

With over two decades of experience in public finance and administration, Dr. Kunemofa is widely regarded as a key figure in strengthening accountability systems in the commission. Her work has been linked to improved financial management practices and the advancement of development initiatives across the Niger Delta region.

Colleagues and associates have also praised her leadership style, often characterized by discipline, strategic vision, and a strong commitment to human development. Dr. Kunemofa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from Rivers State University and an MBA from the National Open University of Nigeria. She is a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. Her professional development includes executive training at institutions such as Harvard University and other international business schools.

Her contributions have earned her several honours, including the Peace International Award for Excellence in Public Service and Financial Management, as well as an honorary doctorate in Leadership and Financial Management.

In addition to her role at the NDDC, she serves as Vice Chairperson of the Board of Advisory Council of the 100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa, a platform focused on promoting peace, leadership, and sustainable development across the continent.

A native of Kaiama in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Dr. Kunemofa has remained closely connected to the development of the Niger Delta, advocating policies and initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods in the region.
