The FCT-IRS says the approved employer recognition status granted the service by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) would propel its staff to greater responsibilities.
The Acting Chairman, Federal Capital Territory Inland Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Mr Haruna Abdullahi said this when he featured on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.
NAN recalls that ACCA recently approved employer status to the FCT-IRS in recognition of efforts toward building a competent and durable workforce.
“It means a lot. The ACCA is a global organisation, I think it is probably the largest accountancy body in the world if am not mistaking.
“For it to recognise the FCT-IRS and say yes you are approved employer of ACCA is great for the service.
“I think we are doing something right somewhere and somebody is seeing it.
“I will give you an example in Nigeria, today its just a few organisations that have had that kind of recognition the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Security and Exchange Commission and quite a few agencies like Price Water House (PWC).”

According to him, it is a great initiative for us but also a huge responsibility because it means we have to keep up to the standard that we have been looked at.
“That brings us to the issues that we are building capacity for our staff but of course just to make sure not just the ACCA, we are collaborating with every other professional body,’’ he said.
While expressing his joy over the development, Abdullahi further described it as big deal for the FCT-IRS.
“It is a huge deal for us; we are happy that somebody with a global recognition is recognising what we are doing on the same pedestal with major organisations locally and internationally,’’ he said.
Abdullahi commended ACCA and described the recognition as timely and advantageous as it gives the Service an edge locally and globally, particularly in respect to capacity building.
According to him, ACCA is a global platform and recognition from such a prestigious association is capable of taking the service to the next level.
`The approved employer recognition status is a big deal for the staff and a huge responsibility to the service to ensure that all staff are properly trained in order to maintain the standard and uphold the image of the service.
The FCT-IRS boss promised to ensure continuous partnership and collaboration of the Service in building a “new public sector” equipped with skilled, diligent and competent employees.
